I have a background as a musician. I play the trombone, and I can work my way around a piano, synthesizers, and electric bass. (Both of my college degrees are in music.) Most of the [digital] audio I work with is music-based.
I went to grad school for audio production, so I’m comfortable working in a recording studio, running live sound, or doing on-location recording.
After college, I spent six years teaching audio production at the Art Institute of Washington. I taught all sorts of audio-related courses on topics such as audio-for-video, DAWs, MIDI, field recording, studio recording, music business, and streaming media. More recently, I taught audio recording at Frederick Community College. I also work with the Frederick Symphony Orchestra, to record their live performances. And, on Sundays I run the audio system at my church.
I own a few good microphones, a couple of field recorders, a solid interface, and a Mac Pro. I use all the typical software for music production like Logic, Pro Tools, Finale, Reason, and Wavelab. I also have an extensive suite of plug-ins from iZotope, Lexicon, McDSP, Universal Audio, and Waves.
